what expenses should I include in a renter monthly budget that people usually forget

Renters insurance is probably the most commonly skipped line item — it typically runs $15–$30 a month and covers theft, fire, and liability, but many renters assume their landlord's policy covers their belongings (it does not). Annual subscriptions billed in one lump sum — like a software plan, warehouse club membership, or a streaming service on a yearly deal — should be divided by 12 and set aside monthly so the charge does not surprise you. Moving costs are another blind spot: truck rental, a new security deposit, overlap rent, and supplies can easily total $2,000–$4,000. Parking fees, pet rent, and storage units are also charges renters often fail to include in their initial template. Adding an irregular expenses buffer of even $75–$100 a month prevents these from derailing an otherwise solid budget.
